Layher: Record-breaking!
Breathless spectators are looking up to the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. In a few seconds, multiple half pipe world champion Taïg Khris is to jump off the Paris landmark to land after 12 metres free fall on a 30 metres high ramp which has been built specifically for this event. On roller blades. A reckless jump and a rapid ride that ends in a heap of foamed plastic cubes placed in front of a huge airbag. World record! To wipe out even the last slightest doubts about his skills, he jumps again. Successfully.
The show is over after only a few short seconds, but it had been planned well in advance. For about two years Taïg Khris worked meticulously together with the Layher team of experts on a draft of the ramp with the aim to guarantee the highest possible safety for both the athlete and the spectators. Ideally suited for this purpose is the Allround Scaffolding, well-known for its unlimited possible applications, last but not least due to its high load-bearing capacity. The ramp must be able to absorb, if necessary, the forces of the airbag or wind loads of up to 150 kilometres per hour. For this purpose, Layher creates in cooperation with a local scaffolder a construction of 100 tons Allround material, completely covered with a specially developed save-all to protect the spectators.
The assembly of the impressive ramp is the second big challenge for the scaffolding team. The schedule plans with only nine days for this. Five days for the scaffolding construction and four days for the wooden cladding with a surface of 400 square metres. A precision landing – an excited Taïg Khris enthuses: “For this jump, I have left nothing to chance; after all it was quite dangerous. Therefore I wanted the best possible for the planning of the ramp. I wanted Layher!”
