Layher committed to Germany as a business location – expansion in Güglingen enters its third phase
Thanks to excellent business progress over recent years, this specialist company for system scaffolding decided early on to increase its capacity, thus allowing customers in future to order Layher products "just-in-time" – essential in scaffolding construction – and to benefit from this flexibility by gaining the crucial competitive lead in this market. To create the space needed for this capacity increase, a separate plant is being built for aluminium and wooden components in neighbouring Güglingen, while production of steel components at the main plant in Eibensbach is being expanded.
The start of building work for "Plant II" is the third stage of the expansion in Güglingen-Eibensbach. Following the new goods reception point and the expansion of steel deck production, the spring of 2009 will also see a new and highly modern hot-dip galvanizing facility starting its operation. "With this expansion of our premises, we are making a clear commitment to Germany as a business location, because 'Made by Layher' continues to mean for us 'Made in Germany'," explains Georg Layher, as the representative of the managing partners, in his welcoming address. "In this way we can do justice to our own high standards of quality in our products. At the same time, we are demonstrating with these investments our commitment to staying in our region – with the creation of 150 new jobs in all."
The land for the new building covers an area of 6.8 hectares. A building complex with four warehouses, three production buildings and office space will be built here, with a total building area of 32,000 m². The start of production is scheduled – after barely one year of building work – for September 2009.
Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co. KG from Güglingen-Eibensbach is Europe's largest manufacturer of system scaffolding. Founded in 1945, the company now employs over 1,100 people internationally: 700 in Germany and a further 400 at its 30 subsidiaries on five continents.
