New Halls Using Layher Scaffolding

With quick-to-assemble and gigantic halls made from Layher Allround equipment, the company Ostsee Gerüstbau GmbH from Winseldorf offers a flexible package for particularly urgent and individual requirements. The construction of interim halls can be commenced even in sub-zero temperatures without the need to provide expensive foundations.

In Lubmin, on the Baltic coast near Greifswald, the company's erectors built a three-ship hall complex around 120 m long and 50 m wide, with an eaves height of 14 m. The roof span is about 40 m, so the roof beams were designed with under-bracing. The associated equipment rooms for the heating system and working materials are also made from Layher material. The Allround scaffolding forms both the framework for the walls and the high-load substructure for the Layher roof beams.

The two bottom levels of the scaffolding structure were provided with steel decks by the specialists. Then they placed the ballast necessary for stability on them. Steel tubes as stiffeners between the wall structure and the roof beams, plus lateral hall bracing, also contribute to stability. The outside of the scaffolding structure was clad with trapezoidal sheet, while the inside was covered with insulated panels; the cavity has sufficient space for supply and disposal pipes. The roof was insulated with 80 mm thick sandwich elements and equipped with smoke/heat venting systems.

Large ship components now pass through the halls to be blasted and coated. Up to 40,000 tons of material can be provided with corrosion protection in these halls every year. The large gates needed are separate in a steel structure and do not put any strain on the scaffolding.

With both the planning phase and the building time for the hall being so short, a considerable increase in capacity was achieved very quickly. This formed the basis for additional orders and a more efficient production. If required, the hall could be easily extended in steps of 2.5 m, and also rapidly dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere. Those are important benefits for a flexible and customer-oriented production.
