Layher Scaffolding Used for Life Size Model
The company Gerüstbau Tisch GmbH from Berlin erected the unanchored 38 metre high birdcage scaffold in just three months. However, the scaffolders were not allowed to transmit any load into the ground, over a surface of around 600 square metres: this is because the underground railway station of the nearby Potsdamer Platz is located underneath Leipziger Platz. Bridging was achieved with 18 metre long steel beams.
This illusion of an actual building is intended to give passers-by and above all local residents a realistic impression of the future situation. The anticipated consequence is a higher degree of acceptance by residents for any inconvenience during the construction period.
