Layher successful at the prolight + sound 2010
A keen professional audience: From 24th until 27th March 2010, the Layher team presented the latest developments for customers in the stage and stand construction sector on the occasion of the world-wide leading trade fair for the event industry.
Layher sheds Light on the Dark
At night, rail travellers from Munich to Stuttgart since recently can enjoy an uncommon sight. Near Burgau in the Swabian administrative district Günzburg there is a tower shining at them. Sometimes red, sometimes green, sometimes even blue.
Spectacular Views
Within the framework of the clean-up operation in- and outside the St. Ludwig church not only the interior space of the church and the façade, but also the roof received a scaffold. The scaffold – for which the company Gerüstbau Seubert used the new Layher Allround STAR Frame for the first time – at the same time provided some spectacular views of the Franconian town Nuremberg.
Layher – Allround in Industrial Construction
Heavy loads: In Leudelange (Luxembourg) E.ON Energy from Waste Leudelange GmbH is building by order of the administration union SIDOR a new, ultra-modern waste incineration plant. The required support scaffolding was supplied by the scaffolding constractor Spanier & Wiedemann successfully employing the heavy-duty support from Layher.
Layher – Luxury – London
High rise buildings in a noble neighbourhood: In London, located between the luxury department store Harvey Nichols and Hyde Park, an exclusive apartment complex is about to rise. Thanks to their good know-how in scaffolding and their modern scaffolding systems, scaffold contractor PHD Modular Access Services Ltd. (PHD) and scaffolding system specialist Layher make a great contribution to the construction site with temporary access structures.

Unmatched advantages for access up onto the scaffolding are available from scaffolding erectors for their customers, with the Layher platform stairway. This has now again been optimized by Layher with two new components – the stair guardrail and the U distance coupler. This makes access to façade scaffolding even faster, more convenient and above all more secure – in the legal sense too.

More Safety at World Economic Forum – thanks to Layher
Security is a major issue at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) - this is proved by the up to 5,000 members of the Swiss army in the Swiss climatic spa Davos, the highest-located city in Europe. Also this year, organisers expect more than 2,000 high-profile representatives from the economy, politics, society and art, who during the five-day event discuss global issues and possible solutions.
The STAR at the viaduct
A cycle path is being created on a disused stretch of railway: as part of the conversion of the Edersee railway between Korbach and Buhlen, work and support scaffolding was assembled to allow repair of the Selbach Viaduct that forms part of this railway. The use of the new STAR Frame from Layher set a shining example thanks to the time saved during assembly.
Layher's Plant II in Operation
Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co. KG has completed and put into operation its "Plant II" on schedule. The construction of this second plant for producing aluminium and wooden components, in the immediate vicinity of the main plant, is an unequivocal commitment by the system scaffolding specialist: to the future, to the region and to Germany as a business location.
The Art of Scaffolding
High peaks, deep gorges, green pastures or soaring waterfalls: these are just some of the spectacular sights to be seen as the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) winds its way along endless curves up the Albula Pass. Halfway between Chur and St. Moritz, a further high point of this railway line comes into view – the Landwasserviadukt at Filisur.

Ingeniously simple – completely safe: the new Layher “P2 Safety Structure” for rolling towers
In the interests of making the assembly of rolling towers even safer, Layher is now introducing the innovative “P2 Safety Structure”: When utilising this new process, the user benefits from an optimum clearance of 2 metres between the decks. The rear guardrails, already fitted ahead of access, form an advancing side and end protection. In this way, both the builders and the users of mobile working platforms are always safeguarded – legally speaking too.
New Layher hot-dip galvanizing facility up and running
After a construction period of just 10 months, Layher put into operation a new hot-dip galvanizing facility in March. Thanks to this facility, the system scaffolding specialist not only guarantees the quality of its products and its delivery capability, but also safeguards jobs in the region.
Through the harbour on Layher flood walkways
When melting snows coincide with persistent rainfall, the Rhine tends to overflow its banks fairly quickly. Cologne on the Rhine is regularly threatened by flooding in January and February, and is Europe's most endangered city in this respect. In the last century alone, the Rhine surpassed the nine-meter mark 21 times – and that usually meant considerable damage. A reason for the cathedral city to devise its flood protection concept in 1996.
Spanning the USA – or how Layher scaffolding is propping up a canyon
"New York meets the Grand Canyon" could be the slogan for one of Europe's biggest inner-city construction sites. That's not only because of the skyscrapers that give Frankfurt its "Mainhattan" nickname, but also because of the so-called "Zeil Canyon" currently being built just five minutes away from the main station.

Safe and sturdy – the infinitely extendable Aluminium Telescopic Bridging Beam from Layher
Layher’s range now includes the newly designed Aluminium Telescopic Bridging Beam, which in conjunction with Layher work trestles creates a safe working platform. This new bridging beam is not only simple to handle and transport; its torsion-stiff section and wide standing surface also ensure safety when working.
Large-scale use of FIPRO decks
The fluorescent orange plastic decks were used at a site of the company Nietiedt Gerüstbau from Wilhelmshaven: A Layher SpeedyScaf scaffolding of more than 4,000 m² was built around a three-story residential block in Wickratherstrasse, Düsseldorf. It was completely decked, except for the hatches, using the extremely lightweight and 0.61 m wide FIPRO decks. Thanks to the weight saving, the company's team in Gelsenkirchen took much less than the estimated assembly time when handling this contract.
Layher committed to Germany as a business location – expansion in Güglingen enters its third phase
The starting gun for further expansion: in November, Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co. KG held its ground-breaking ceremony to mark the official start of building work on its "Plant II" in the "Burgweg" industrial zone. The southern outskirts of Güglingen will be the future home to the entire production of aluminium and wooden components, while the main plant in Eibensbach will be the centre for the manufacture of steel scaffolding.
Expansion of Burghausen Refinery using Layher Scaffolding
Countless distillation towers and crackers, and kilometers of pipelines in every diameter, are all components found in refineries that have to be protected against corrosion and insulated. Well-paid specialists are employed to do so, and they need optimal access to the extremely exposed components to do the job.

Scaffolding at Karl-Theodor Bridge in Heidelberg is built using Layher products
The famous bridge over the Neckar in Heidelberg, built in 1788 by order of the Elector Karl Theodor, is currently being repaired. The company Wolfgang Fuchs GmbH from Bühlertann is responsible for the scaffolding enclosing the stone bridge, and is using Layher Allround equipment to do so.
Refurbishment Work using Layher Equipment at Oberstein Castle
From May to November 2008, the outer masonry of Oberstein Castle – first mentioned in 1320 and situated above Idar-Oberstein, a town famous for its gemstone industry – is being refurbished, together with the rock formation underneath it. To stabilize the masonry and the rock, holes are to be drilled to a depth of four meters to receive injection anchors.
On rails through the Frauenkirche
For recurring maintenance work inside the main dome of the Frauenkirche in Dresden, Wilhelm Layher GmbH & Co.KG has provided an ingenious Allround mobile tower made of aluminium. The technical details were worked out in cooperation with the structural engineering firm Statikbüro Frank Weichelt of Dresden.
Stairway towers for Euro 2008 football stadiums
To cope with the expected masses of spectators at the European Football Champtionship in 2008 in Austra and Switzerland, existing sports grounds in Innsbruck and Salzburg are being extended. The two stadiums are thus being provided with temporary upper stands. This will almost double the numbers of seats in the two arenas. Layher stairway towers were used to provide access to these seats.
New Halls Using Layher Scaffolding
Shipyards are currently booked up all over the world, yet a rapid expansion of production capacities to cater for the increased demand is not in sight. The construction work alone for plant of this size often takes years, and the planning and approval phase might also need around one year.
Layher FIPRO Deck Wins Prize
This year too, Layher was honoured at the Batimat in Paris for outstanding achievements in development work. Layher S.A.S. from France accepted the Innovation Prize in Bronze for the FIPRO Deck.
The first GRP deck in scaffolding construction is distinguished by its outstanding rigidity, remarkable chemical resistance and its high resistance to environmental effects. The non-slip surface ensures greater safety and is easy to clean.
Layher Scaffolding Used for Life Size Model
In the middle of Berlin, at Leipziger Platz, a scaffolding structure will stand until 2009 as a vision of a future building. The gigantic Allround scaffold forms a life-size model of the planned construction work and already allows you to see what the Leipziger Platz will look like as an octagon.
Layher Scaffolds in Melbourne
EastLink is Australia's largest urban road development project and will deliver Melbourne's second fully electronic tollway, comprising about 45 kilometres of freeway standard road connecting the city's eastern and south-eastern suburbs. Construction is now well underway at both entrances of the twin, 1.6 kilometre long three-lane tunnels under the Mullum Mullum Valley, with 600 people employed on the project.
